Gov. Akeredolu begins 21-day leave for medical treatment abroad
Rotimi Akeredolu, the Governor of Ondo State, has reportedly travelled abroad for medical treatment and will be on leave for 21 days, according to a letter he sent to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly. The letter also transmitted power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to function as acting governor in his absence until he returns on July 6, 2023.
“The Governor, who had directed his Deputy, Hon.Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to act as the Governor while away, has assured of his resumption on the 6th of July, 2023”, said the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, who received the letter.
The nature of Akeredolu’s illness was not disclosed; however, his absence had attracted mixed reactions, with critics alleging the governor had an undisclosed ailment. Recall that the opposition parties in the state had demanded info on the governor’s whereabouts and asked him to transfer power to his deputy, citing the provisions of the Constitution.
The governor’s leave period includes the public holidays of the Democracy Day on June 12th, and Eid el Kabir, which holds on June 28-29th in 2023, as revealed by Oladiji in his disclosure.
