Super Eagles Set to Clash With Sierra Leone as Goalkeeping Position Remains Undecided
As Nigeria’s Super Eagles prepare for their AFCON 2023 qualifying match against Sierra Leone, football fans and pundits have started to debate on which goalkeeper should be given the opportunity to fill in for Francis Uzoho, who is missing the game due to suspension.
According to ThisDayLive, Premier League stars Victor Sochima and Olorunleke Ojo may fill the gap along with Adebayo Adeleye, but there are no guarantees as to who will be chosen given the team’s struggles to establish a consistent number one.
“Nigeria have since Carl Ikeme’s retirement struggled to have a number one. Uzoho, Maduka Okoye, and Ikechukwu Ezenwa have all tasted the position.”
The Super Eagles’ team arrived in Sierra Leone ahead of the game, with an update coming via their official Twitter account. If Nigeria wins the game, it will be enough for the three-time African champions to book their spot in the tournament to be held in Ivory Coast in January.
The Group A qualification log for the competition currently has Nigeria in second place with nine points out of four games played; they won three and lost one match. Earlier, the team’s group opponent and table-toppers, Guinea-Bissau, beat minnows Sao Tome and Principe 1-0.
