Breaking: Elite Women Hurdlers Poised to Smash 12 Second Barrier!

Reigning Olympic champion, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and world record holder, Tobi Amusan are confident they can run the women’s 100m hurdles in under 12 seconds, keeping the bars at their current height while jokingly pleading that they remain so. Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s Golden Spike meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic, Amusan said she believed running at such an incredible speed was possible. “I’m a big believer in the Bible, nothing is impossible and 11 seconds? Most definitely,” she said. Meanwhile, Camacho-Quinn – who won gold at the Covid-delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics – said the current world record of 12.12 seconds should be set even higher because the speed was sometimes too much for hurdles, and it all becomes about rhythm and technique.

“It’s just about piecing it together,” added the 26-year-old Puerto Rican.

As debates continue on raising of hurdles to give priority to technique over speedity, both athletes preferred the bars to stay at 84 centimetres (33 inches) because it would make it too easy for short athletes to clear the bars.

“I feel like we have a lot of hurdlers that are really short,” said the Nigerian. That’s not what people will see. They just see us on TV and they’re like, ‘Oh, she’s so tall, she’s so bulky.’ I’m not bulky, I’m not tall. Don’t do that, don’t raise the hurdles. Please,” Amusan joked.

Both Amusan and Camacho-Quinn urged organisers to let the bars stay at their current height. They opined that raising it would change the nature of the sport, possibly making it look unattractive.
