Former Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila Set to Resign as Lawmaker and Focus on Chief of Staff Role
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, is set to resign from his position as a lawmaker today. Gbajabiamila was appointed as the new Chief of Staff by President Buhari, and will now focus on this new role.
According to exclusive information received by Channels Television, the Member representing Surulere 1 will be stepping down from his position, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will need to conduct a fresh election to fill the post.
Concerns were raised regarding how the former Speaker was going to manage both roles, given that he was inaugurated alongside his colleagues on Tuesday and had also voted for the House of Representatives leadership. However, now that he will no longer be a lawmaker, he can now devote his full attention to his role as Chief of Staff.
This is a developing story – more updates to come.
