The head of the UN’s refugee agency Filippo Grandi said on Tuesday that the number of people who have fled the fighting in Sudan was now more than 500,000 while two million are internally displaced.
“Today we pass the mark of half a million refugees from Sudan following the beginning of the conflict,” he said at a press conference in Nairobi. “Two million people are displaced inside the country.”
UN’s refugee agency has reported that half a million individuals have fled the violent conflict in Sudan to seek refuge elsewhere. As for those who weren’t able to leave the country, two million of them have been internally displaced.
The numbers show just how dire the situation is. The refugees have been forced to risk their lives in search of safety, with many of them traveling hundreds of miles on foot. The violence in Sudan has put millions of lives at risk, and the organization is doing its utmost to respond to humanitarian needs.
