City of Lagos Set for Major Traffic Disruption as FG Prepares to Shut Down Eko Bridge for a Whopping 40 Days

The Federal Government has announced the closure of the Alaka-Costain-Iganmu section of the Eko Bridge for another 40 days. The closure will begin on Sunday 23rd July 2023. This decision comes after the discovery of damage to some bridge members that require urgent repairs.

The Federal Ministry of Works & Housing expressed concern that further delays could compromise the integrity and structural stability of the entire bridge. The consequences of such a scenario could be catastrophic. This announcement was made by the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos State, Engr. (Mrs.) O.I. Kesha, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the ministry.

The closure will allow the Contractor, Messrs Buildwell Plants & Equipment Ind. Ltd, to carry out the necessary repairs and ensure the restoration of the bridge within the specified time frame.

Intermittent Closures and Alternative Routes

During the opening of the Apongbon section of the bridge, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Federal Controller of Works, Engr. (Mrs.) Olukorede Kesha, announced that intermittent closures would be implemented as the maintenance work progresses.

While the service lane leading to Iponri will remain open, alternative routes have been provided for motorists traveling from Western Avenue and surrounding areas.

Motorists are urged to cooperate with the Traffic-Management Team deployed on the highway to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Thank you for your usual cooperation.
