Comedian Cute Abiola Faces Police Prosecution For Mocking Uniforms in Hilarious Skit

The Nigeria Police Force to Prosecute Online Comedian ‘Cute Abiola’

In a statement released on Thursday, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced its intention to prosecute Abdulgafar Ahmad, popularly known as Cute Abiola, an online comedian, for two recent skits posted on his social media accounts on July 20th and 24th. This move was disclosed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who described the comedian’s actions as contemptuous and disrespectful towards the police uniform.

Adejobi stated, “Such acts are not only offensive but also undermine the integrity and dignity of the men and women who wear the uniform in service to the nation.” He added that these actions are in violation of Section 251 of the Criminal Code and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law.

Violation of the Law

The statement by the police spokesman reiterated the seriousness of Cute Abiola’s portrayal of the police uniform in his skits, calling it a “highly disrespectful and derogatory portrayal.” The NPF condemned this act and emphasized its commitment to upholding the sanctity of the uniform.

  1. Contemptuous Actions
  2. The NPF strongly condemned Cute Abiola’s skits, stating that they “display a highly disrespectful and derogatory portrayal of the police uniform.” The force expressed its intention to investigate and possibly prosecute him for his deliberate actions.

  3. Upholding the Uniform’s Integrity
  4. The statement emphasized the NPF’s determination to protect the integrity of the uniform and pursue legal processes to ensure accountability for anyone who seeks to bring disrepute to the uniform or the institution it represents.

  5. Responsible Freedom of Expression
  6. The NPF called on the public, including media personalities, to exercise their freedom of expression responsibly and avoid engaging in actions that could erode public trust in law enforcement institutions.

  7. Past Encounters
  8. It is worth noting that Cute Abiola, a former Naval officer, was previously arrested by the Nigerian Navy in 2021 for allegedly violating the armed forces’ social media policy. He faced punishment after being tried for misconduct and indiscipline.

The NPF’s decision to prosecute Cute Abiola sends a clear message that actions undermining the uniform and the institution it represents will not be tolerated. While freedom of expression is valued, it must be exercised responsibly and with respect for the authorities.
