A suspected vandal met his end while trying to vandalise an electricity transformer on Camp Road in Lokoja, Kogi state. The man, identified as Alfa Olukuluku Kabiru from Angwan-Masara street in Lokoja, was electrocuted on Thursday, June 15, 2023 mid-way through his ‘operation’.
According to reports, the corpse of the late vandal was removed by the police and Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) officials from the substation and deposited in a mortuary in Lokoja following his death.
The transformer has been a subject of repeated vandalisation over a period, and the recent occurrence which led to the death of the unknown vandal was the fifth in the series,”
said the Lokoja Area Officer of AEDC, Engr. Michael Eneromi.
He also revealed that last week, the transformer was fixed following a report by the community after it was vandalized. However, the community once again reported the transformer vandalized yesterday, following which the company sent a mail requesting for about N1.9m to fix the transformer.
“This is my 20 years of working as a staff of NEPA, AEDC. I make bold to say never have there been incidents of vandalization by our staff. I’m happy that the people can confirm this alongside others in Lokoja that mischief makers are behind the wicked act,
“Engr. Michael said concerning insinuations that staff of the electricity company are behind the vandalisation of electricity infrastructure.
According to the spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP William Ayah, the man was picked up at the substation of the electricity company at Paparanda Square, Lokoja, by police operatives. He was confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre in Lokoja and his corpse was deposited in the hospital.
