President Bola Tinubu to Attend ECOWAS Summit in Guinea-Bissau

President Bola Tinubu will be heading to Guinea-Bissau on Saturday to participate in the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The summit is scheduled to take place in Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau, on Sunday.

According to a statement by Dele Alake, the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, President Tinubu will be accompanied by members of the Presidential Policy Advisory Council and other high-ranking government officials. The President is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the meeting.

Agenda of the Summit

  1. Addressing security challenges faced by member countries, as highlighted in the report of the 50th Ordinary Session of the Mediation and Security Council (MSC)
  2. Financial situation of ECOWAS and the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), based on the report of the 90th Ordinary Session of ECOWAS Council of Ministers
  3. Status of transition in the Republics of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea
  4. ECOWAS Single Currency Programme
  5. Obstacles to Free Movement of Goods on the Abidjan-Lagos corridor

This will be President Tinubu’s second official trip abroad since assuming office on May 29. Previously, he traveled to Paris, France on June 20 to participate in the New Global Financial Pact organized by French President Emmanuel Macron. The pact aimed to prioritize support and investment in vulnerable countries affected by climate change, the energy crisis, and the COVID-19 pandemic. President Tinubu also took the opportunity to engage with the Nigerian community in France during his visit.

After the summit in Paris, President Tinubu made a short private visit to London, United Kingdom before returning to Nigeria on June 27. He spent the Sallah holiday in Lagos before returning to Abuja.

Stay tuned for more updates on President Tinubu’s activities as he represents Nigeria at the ECOWAS summit in Guinea-Bissau.
