Oyo State Police Nabs Gang Involved in Killing Father and Raping His Daughters
The Oyo State Police Command recently apprehended three members of a ruthless criminal group that brutally murdered one Makanjuola Ogedengbe, in addition to gang-raping his two daughters, who were aged ten and fourteen at the time of the incident. According to reports, the suspects invaded the Apaataku/Onireke community, Akobo Ibadan, on May 14. In the process, they dispossessed residents of valuables, killed Mr. Ogedengbe, and raped his two daughters.
During a press conference held at the Command Headquarters at Eleyele, Ibadan, on June 16, 2023, the suspects were paraded alongside other criminals. SP Adewale Osifeso, the Public Relations Officer of the police command, disclosed that the case was transferred to SCID Iyaganku for investigation. Upon arrest, the suspects were identified as Ibrahim Rasaq, Abiodun Olalekan, and Abolade Morenikeji, who had previously been arrested in connection with an armed robbery operation at Sawia Estate, Ogbere, Ibadan, on April 16, 2023.
Further investigation revealed that the same gang that had carried out the operation at Sawia Estate was responsible for the mayhem inflicted on the residents of Apaataku/Onireke. The two daughters of the deceased were allegedly raped by Abolade Morenikeji and Sodiq, who was the said perpetrator group’s leader. The community’s security guards killed Sodiq during the operation. In the process, the assailants also shot at the community’s night guard, who is currently receiving treatment.
The ever-busy Information Nigeria reported that on June 16, one Adebayo Salami, an accomplice responsible for receiving goods, was arrested at Ajara Olohunda, Akobo, in Ibadan. During interrogation, he admitted to having invited the group to carry out the robbery operation in Apaatuku, which resulted in Mr. Ogedengbe’s death and the rape of his daughters. He claimed that he was not the one who killed the deceased but was one of the men who raped his daughters, stating that “it was the work of the devil”.
The police command is still in search of one of the suspects who are on the run. The news of such a horrific crime will understandably create fear and anxiety amongst the residents of Ibadan and beyond. The operation’s investigation is still ongoing, and we hope justice is served to the culprits, bringing some relief to the deceased’s family and the affected community.
