Game-Changing Drama: PSG Drops Mbappé from Tour Amid Skyrocketing Rumors of Madrid Move

Paris Saint-Germain Leaves Kylian Mbappe Out of Pre-Season Tour, Sparking Speculation

Paris Saint-Germain has omitted Kylian Mbappe from their squad for a pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the forward’s future with the French champions. Despite no reason being provided for the omission, it is widely known that 24-year-old Mbappe has refused to sign a new contract with the club.

This latest development will only intensify rumors that Mbappe may make a move to Real Madrid ahead of the upcoming season. In May, the forward stated his reluctance to extend his contract with PSG, which is set to expire next year, but expressed his desire to remain at the club for one final season.

In a press conference, Mbappe declared, “I still have a year left on my contract and I am going to honor my contract.” This decision would allow him to become a free agent next summer and potentially leave PSG for nothing. However, club president Nasser al-Khelaifi dismissed the notion of Mbappe’s departure as “impossible,” stating, “We can’t let the best player in the world today leave for free.”

Khelaifi even issued an ultimatum, giving Mbappe a “maximum two weeks” to make a decision – either sign a new contract or leave this summer. This deadline coincides with the team’s departure for Asia on Saturday. Khelaifi asked the Mbappe camp to clarify the situation when training resumed on July 15, but has received no response, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.

Mbappe has been actively participating in the club’s pre-season preparations and showcased his skills by scoring a goal during a training ground friendly against Le Havre on Friday. As PSG’s all-time leading scorer with 212 goals in 260 appearances, Mbappe remains the second most expensive player in history.

The 29-player PSG squad heading east for the pre-season tour will include Mbappe’s younger brother, 16-year-old Ethan Mbappe, as well as Neymar, the Brazilian whose 2017 transfer to PSG for a record-breaking fee of 222 million euros remains unparalleled.

Letter from PSG and Alleged Agreement with Real Madrid

On July 5, PSG sent a letter to Mbappe expressing a sense of betrayal, emphasizing that the club had supported him and his family since his teenage years. The letter states that Mbappe is not opting for the “win-win” solution of extending his contract or accepting a transfer.

According to the letter, “This is how all the great players, like you, left their club.” PSG believes that Mbappe has already reached an agreement to join Real Madrid as a free agent in June 2024, with a substantial signing bonus as an incentive for the Spanish giants, who would save on the transfer fee. However, it should be noted that a source involved in the negotiations claims that PSG has received a $300 million offer from Saudi Arabia for Mbappe, although a move there seems unlikely.

A year ago, Mbappe was expected to join Real Madrid upon the expiration of his previous contract but ultimately decided to stay in Paris. Real Madrid has once again become a leading suitor for the star forward, especially after Karim Benzema’s recent move to Saudi Arabia, leaving a vacancy in the Spanish capital.

Having played a pivotal role in France’s World Cup victory in 2018 and establishing himself as one of the world’s top attackers, Mbappe’s talent is highly sought after. Last season, he scored 29 goals in Ligue 1 and netted a total of 41 goals in 43 games across all competitions for PSG. With new coach Luis Enrique at the helm, PSG will commence their Asian tour facing Al-Nassr in Osaka on Tuesday, followed by matches against Cerezo Osaka and Inter Milan in Tokyo before concluding the tour in Busan, South Korea, against Jeonbuk Motors on August 3.
