President Tinubu Shakes Up Service Chiefs, Replaces General Lucky Irabor with Major General Christopher Gwabin Musa as CDS
President Bola Tinubu has removed all Service Chiefs and replaced them with new ones, Major General Christopher Gwabin Musa has been appointed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), replacing General Lucky Irabor.
Who is Major General Christopher Gwabin Musa?
Musa, fondly referred to as “CGM,” is a seasoned military officer with over 30 years of service to Nigeria. He was born on December 25, 1967, in Sokoto, Nigeria, and hails from Zangon Kataf LGA, Kaduna State.
His civil educational background shows he attended Marafa Danbaba Primary School Sokoto, Model Primary School Dorowa Road Sokoto, Vocational Training Centre Gaummi, Sokoto, Federal Government College Sokoto, and College of Advanced Studies, Zaria. He obtained a BSc Hons-(Chn) from Nigerian Defence Academy in 1990 and furthered his education with an Advanced Diploma in Security Management at the University of Lagos in 2007-2008. In addition, he got an MSc (Mil Science) at the International College of Defence Studies, China, in 2012-2013.
Musa’s military/civil courses span over several years, from the Nigerian Defence Academy as a member of the 38th RC to the Combined Joint Land Component Commander’s Course on Leadership at the US Army War College in 2017.
Some of his appointments held over the years include Platoon Commander, Intelligence Officer, Administrative Officer, Deputy Chief of Staff Training/Operations, Principal Staff Officer (Combat Arms) at Army HQ Department of Projects and Programmes, as well as Commander 82 Division Task Force Brigade and Theatre Comd JTF (NE) Op HADIN KAI in 2021 till date.
In recognition of his outstanding service to Nigeria, CGM has been decorated with various awards and honours, including the Meritorious Service Star, Distinguished Service Star, Centenary Medal, and Grand Service Star.
CGM is a proud husband to Mrs Lilian Oghogho Musa and a father to four children. His hobby is service to humanity. With his appointment as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Nigerians look forward to the new heights he will take the Nigeria Military to.
