The Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu has ordered the immediate ban of all commercial motorcycles within the Calabar Metropolis.

According to the statement, those willing to use their cycles to earn a decent living are restricted only to remote areas away from the city centre.
The ban isn’t all-encompassing, however, as those who depend on motorcycles for their livelihoods are allowed to operate in remote areas far from the city center. That is, assuming they meet the proper regulatory requirements.
The state government warned that anyone caught violating the directive will have the motorcycle impounded and the offender prosecuted.
Violators of this directive will be dealt with swiftly, warns the state government. Motorcycle operators who violate the ban will have their motorcycles impounded, and they will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“The Governor, Senator Bassey Out, after due consultation with key security chiefs in the state has directed a total ban on the activities of all commercial motorcycles within the Calabar Metropolis,” the statement read.
