Nigerian Chef Breaks Guinness World Record for Longest Cooking Marathon
Nigerian Chef Hilda Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has made history as the longest individual performer in the Guinness World Records cooking marathon. After waiting for weeks for confirmation, Hilda Baci finally received a Guinness World Records plaque to prove her feat, which she announced via an Instagram post on Monday. Baci’s eventful cooking lasted for 93 hours and 11 minutes, breaking the previous record set in 2019 by an India-based chef, Lata Tondon, who cooked for 87 hours and 45 minutes.
GWR Takes Note of Baci’s Achievement
The Guinness World Records made an official announcement last Tuesday, confirming Baci’s record as the longest cooking marathon for an individual. The statement indicated that Baci initially aimed for a record of 100 hours, but nearly seven hours were taken off her total cooking time after mistakenly taking extra minutes for one of her rest intervals early on in the attempt.
The statement continued, “As with all ‘longest marathon’ records, the participant is allowed a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity. These rest breaks could be accumulated if not taken. They were the only times Hilda could use the bathroom or sleep during the attempt.”
Baci Shares the Moment on Social Media
The Guinness World Record plaque arrived as a courier dispatch rider delivered it to a visibly excited Baci who quickly took to social media to share her success with her followers. Accompanying the plaque was a certificate that read, “Most cooking time – individual,” as well as her time of 93 hours and 11 minutes. Baci expressed her joy, saying, “It’s official,” adding that it was not an easy feat.
Baci’s win is a testament to the fact that with determination, hard work, and a desire for success, anything is possible. Congratulations, Hilda Baci!
