Hudu Ari Applauds INEC for Showing Seriousness, Declares IPAC Chair

IPAC Chairman Commends INEC’s Action against Suspended REC in Adamawa State

The Chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Yabagi Sani, has praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for taking decisive action against the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Adamawa State, Hudu Ari. Sani stated that this move demonstrates INEC’s commitment to upholding discipline within the electoral process.

INEC had filed six counts against Ari after he controversially declared Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Adamawa governorship election in April. Ari made this announcement while the collation of results was still ongoing. Subsequently, INEC nullified Ari’s decision, suspended him, and President Muhammadu Buhari ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.

Following the conclusion of the election, INEC declared Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the authentic winner. INEC proceeded to file a lawsuit against Ari, submitting the case to the High Court in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State.

During a guest appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sani commended INEC’s actions, emphasizing that the Commission met the expectations of Nigerians. He also stressed the need for discipline among INEC staff.

“I think INEC has done what we expected it to do; I am talking about the Chairman now and of course INEC as a body. In any situation where there is no discipline, what you find is a total disorganization and the staff of INEC need to be disciplined,” said Sani.

“That the man (Ari) has now been charged is long overdue because the kind of impunity that was displayed violated all the INEC extant rules. It is something that beats one’s imagination. This is because you will expect that somebody at that level should be able to know the implications of doing what he did.

“We need to start showing that we are a serious country, and if we toy with the future of this country by way of handling our elections with such levity, we will remain in a vicious cycle, with no progress economically, socially, and politically. We need to be serious, and I think this action by INEC has demonstrated that it really means business,” Sani added.
