IGP Urges Public to Use ‘Rescue Me App’ for Instant Police Assistance in Emergencies

Acting Inspector-General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun is encouraging Nigerians to embrace and use the “NPF Rescue Me App,” according to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi. The mobile application serves as a platform for citizens to alert the Police Force during emergency situations. Egbetokun highlighted that the initiative aims to facilitate prompt response and assistance and is in line with the Nigeria Police Force’s vision of fostering stronger community engagement. The “NPF Rescue Me App” is available for free download and usage on both Android and iOS application stores.

During a tour of the state-of-the-art National Command and Control Centre (C4i) facility and the Nigeria Police Crime and Incidence Database Centre (NPCIDC) at the Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the IGP emphasized his commitment to integrating smart policing strategies into the Nigerian Police Force, as stated by Adejobi.

The IGP urged officers to fully leverage cutting-edge technologies to enhance their operations and improve service delivery to citizens.

The IGP also directed all investigation units and police formations to reactivate the use of applications installed at the NPCIDC. These applications will update and keep the biometrics and other relevant data/information of suspects for improved investigations and record-keeping, readily available to police operatives to ensure a credible electronic criminal database.

The Nigeria Police Force is also working on innovating other areas paramount to security. Among these innovations are the Police Mobile Security Surveillance, which will capture motor parks, commercial drivers, and passengers’ information, including hotel lodging data, and the Domestic Help Registration to create and manage a centrally accessible data of all domestic helps with verifiable previous employment records.
