Incredible Restoration: Sanwo-Olu’s Remarkable Efforts Revive Apongbon Bridge After Devastating Fire

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reopened Apongbon Bridge on Saturday, signaling the end of a 15-month closure following a devastating fire that broke out at Apongbon market in March of last year. The fire destroyed numerous wooden shops and engulfed a significant portion of the bridge, also consuming vehicles parked underneath.

Road users and motorists in the area were thrown into panic when the fire erupted in the early hours of March 23, 2022. In response, the Lagos State Government promptly closed the Eko Bridge and announced alternative routes for diverting traffic and ensuring the safety of motorists.

The reopening of the Apongbon Bridge was attended by several dignitaries, including the Permanent Secretary, Office of Infrastructure, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs Olukorede Keisha, and the General Manager of the Lagos State Public Works Corporation, Lateef Somide.
