IPOB: Biafra is non-negotiable!
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have boldly affirmed that their fight for the independence of Biafra is a legally protected right granted by the United Nations laws and the African Union Charter. They insist that their self-determination cannot be negotiated, nor will it be silenced by unlawful imprisonment of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful highlighted that “In Nigeria today, Kanu remains the only political prisoner held unconstitutionally in custody without charge because he is an Igbo man.” The group leaders stress that their leader’s persecution and illegal incarceration is punishment for his stance on matters related to the well-being of his people. They’ve called on the Federal Government to remember an agreement to negotiate a referendum date and terms soonest without further delay.
IPOB wishes to remind the government that the Igbo people have been treated with hostility, disdain, and discrimination based on Kanu’s arrest and detention. The group added that Kanu and other IPOB members remain incarcerated without any legal justification or explanation from the Federal Government, even after the Nigerian courts ordered their release.
Their statement read, “If after the referendum Biafrans vote ‘yes’ to exit Nigeria, Biafra and Nigeria can still be good neighbours. Our request for the independent state of Biafra is not out of hatred for others but for self-preservation and reclamation of racial dignity.”
IPOB commended individuals and political figures, including Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Mba, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, Barr. Kanayo .O. Kanayo, and others for demanding Kanu’s release from detention.
The fight for Biafra remains unrelenting, no matter the obstacles facing the Igbo and their leader.
