Lagos Authorities Set to Shut Down Eko Bridge for Urgent Repairs This Sunday

The Lagos State Government Announces Closure of Eko Bridge for 24 Hours

The Lagos State Government has revealed that the Eko Bridge, leading towards the newly reopened Apongbon Bridge, will be closed for a period of 24 hours on Sunday, July 16, 2023. This temporary closure is required for urgent remedial palliative works, which will be carried out by the Lagos State Public Works in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing.

According to Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, this 24-hour closure will facilitate uninterrupted adjustments to the bridge as part of these essential repair works. Additionally, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) personnel have been dispatched to manage and control traffic in areas such as C.M.S, Marina, Ijora, and other alternative routes on both the Lagos Island and Mainland.

In order to minimize disruptions and provide alternative travel options, certain routes have been highlighted for motorists during the repair period. These options are as follows:

  1. Motorists traveling from the Mainland/Surulere area headed to Lagos Island are advised to use the Ijora-Olopa/Causeway route to access Carter Bridge (Idumota) and reach their desired destinations.
  2. Alternatively, they can choose to connect via Costain to Iganmu through Ijora-Oloye, crossing Ijora Causeway and reaching Carter Bridge (Idumota) to access their desired destinations.
  3. Motorists traveling from Lagos Island towards Surulere/Mainland are advised to connect to Carter Bridge (Idumota) through Iddo/Oyingbo and proceed to Herbert Macaulay for their desired destinations.
  4. Another option for this direction is to connect through Ijora Olopa, passing by LAWMA Headquarters, and then reaching Eko Bridge towards Costain/Alaka for their desired destinations.
  5. Motorists can also opt to use the Third Mainland Bridge to access Adekunle, from where they can connect to Herbert Macaulay and reach their desired destinations.

Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola, the Permanent Secretary, further urges all road users to collaborate with the Traffic Managers during the palliative works in order to facilitate seamless movement.
