Lens Captain Fofana Makes Exciting Move to Saudi Club Al-Nassr

Lens captain Seko Fofana has officially confirmed that he will be joining Al-Nassr, the Saudi Arabian club where Cristiano Ronaldo currently plays. In a heartfelt farewell video posted on Instagram, the 28-year-old Ivorian international midfielder expressed his pride in being part of Lens’ history.

Fofana played a total of 112 games for the northern French club, scoring 21 goals over the course of three years. His departure comes as Lens prepares to make its return to the Champions League after a 21-year absence. They finished second in Ligue 1 last season, just one point behind Paris Saint-Germain.

“Seko is here,” Al-Nassr announced on Twitter, confirming Fofana’s arrival at the Riyadh-based club. He will be joining a star-studded roster that includes Ronaldo, Croatian international Marcelo Brozovic, and Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina.

In recent weeks, several other big names have made the move to Saudi Arabia, including French players Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante at Al-Ittihad, as well as Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly and Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves at Al-Hilal.

Fofana, who served as Lens’ captain 72 times, was one of the standout players in Ligue 1 last season. Despite being a midfielder, he was shortlisted for the league’s best player award alongside four forwards, including Kylian Mbappe, Lois Openda, Jonathan David, and Lionel Messi.

RC Lens general manager Arnaud Pouille praised Fofana’s leadership and described him as an exemplary captain: “I want, on behalf of the club, to especially salute an exemplary captain who has been sparkling and has shown leadership for three seasons. Proof of his deep attachment to Racing, he will very soon become the first player leaving a club to become a shareholder.”

Fofana began his youth career at Paris FC and Lorient before signing with Manchester City in 2014. However, he never made a professional appearance for the club and was subsequently loaned to Fulham and Bastia. After spending four years at Serie A club Udinese, he joined Lens in the summer of 2020, just as they were promoted to Ligue 1.

In addition to Fofana’s departure, RC Lens also announced that Polish international Adam Buksa has been loaned to Turkish club Antalyaspor with an option to buy.
