Labour Party Candidate Tenders 20,000 Documents Before Tribunal in Challenge Against Governor Sanwoolu’s Victory
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party candidate in the Lagos State governorship election, has presented over 20,000 documents before the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal as part of his efforts to challenge Governor Sanwolu’s victory. The petitioner, who presented the documents on Tuesday, was accompanied by his lead counsel, Dr Olumide Ayeni. The documents were arranged in 13 boxes, with his schedule of exhibits alongside. The tribunal directed that all respondents have access to the documents, which contain INEC forms including EC9, EC8A & B, Form EC40A, Form EC40G, BIVAS Reports and others. The examination of the documents will continue until Wednesday.
Limited Appeal
The petitioner’s counsel, Dr. Ayeni, had sought to move an application to allow the petitioner to tender, use and rely on certain documents, but Charles Edosomwan (SAN), who represented INEC, the first respondent, described the application as “a ground-moving motion” and asked for time to consult. Counsel to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and his Deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, also noted that the application was not ripe for hearing.
Focus on the Tribunal
The petitioner will call his first witness in proof of his petition on Wednesday, after the tribunal adjourned the case. The documents tendered are expected to be presented through the witnesses in a bid to prove the petitioner’s claims. . The tribunal’s pre-trial report had called for the documents’ presentation before the end of Tuesday, and obliged the petitioner’s request for a stand-down in proceedings for all his documents to be made available.
