Omisore Drops Intriguing Hint on Merging Ministries in Tinubu’s Cabinet

As Nigerians eagerly anticipate President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial list, Senator Iyiola Omisore, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has suggested that the President may merge some ministries. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, Omisore revealed that the President’s cabinet will consist of 36 to 42 ministers, in compliance with the constitution which mandates one minister per state and one per zone. Omisore further disclosed that discussions are ongoing with the party, with a focus on structuring the ministries to address the current needs and aspirations of Nigerians, possibly through mergers, rebranding, and strategic naming.

When asked about the possibility of President Tinubu forming a government of national unity by including members of opposition parties, such as former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Omisore stated that the decision lies with the President. He emphasized that there are technocrats within the party who are also politicians, with a strong professional background. According to Omisore, consultations between the President and the ruling party are ongoing in order to finalize the ministerial list and form a combined cabinet that will benefit Nigerians.

During the interview, Omisore clarified the comments made by APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, regarding the health status of Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Omisore explained that during a meeting with APC state chairmen in Abuja on Monday, Adamu had expressed prayers for Akeredolu’s speedy recovery.
