President Bola Tinubu has held a meeting with prominent Niger Delta leader and former leader agitator in the oil-rich region, Alhaji Asari Dokubo, at the State House.
President Tinubu of Nigeria recently had a meeting with a notable figure from the oil-rich Niger Delta region, Alhaji Asari Dokubo. The agenda of the meeting was unclear, but it is thought that it was part of the President’s ongoing consultations with leaders from the region.
It is believed that Dokubo is likely to be part of the President’s ongoing consultations with opinion leaders from the Niger Delta region.
It is likely that Dokubo will be involved in the President’s further consultations with other influential figures from the Niger Delta region. Tinubu had previously promised to combat crude oil theft in Nigeria.
While speaking on the impact of the fuel subsidy discontinuance, he argued that former presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari failed to do what Tinubu has done in the past weeks of his administration.
Dokubo, who previously organized Niger Delta youths to attend the Abuja meeting of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, addressed the impact of fuel subsidy discontinuance. He claimed that both former presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari failed to take the crucial step that Tinubu had done in his few weeks at the helm of affairs.
- He pledged his support for Tinubu and stated, “If Ahmed Bola Tinubu fails, hold me responsible. I am unapologetic.”
- Dokubo went on to say, “I have known him since 1992 and I know what he stands for, and can stand in the gap between him and the people and say this. This is a step my brother Goodluck failed to take when he had the opportunity. The same step Buhari could not take and Tinubu took it from his first day at the office.”
Dokubo was full of praise for Tinubu, claiming that he could stand up for the people and shift the power balance in their favor. The meeting was arranged by Dokubo and was held behind closed doors.
