Rampaging Ogun Students Viciously Assault Teacher for Foiling Their Cheating Scheme

A Gang of Secondary School Students Attack Teacher

A gang of ten secondary school students in Ogun State allegedly attacked a teacher, Kolawole Shonuga, after he caught one of them cheating during an examination.

The incident took place at Isanbi Comprehensive High School, Ilisan-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area. The victim, while invigilating an exam for SS 1 Art class students, confiscated the paper of Ashimi Adebanjo, 18 years, who was caught cheating.

Angered by the teacher’s actions, Ashimi and his gang laid ambush on Shonuga at the school gate after classes ended and physically assaulted him. Witnesses reported that the students pounced on him, with one of them hitting him on the head with a stick.

“No student must raise his hand against a teacher, whether Ogun Teach teachers or permanent teachers. A teacher is a teacher,” said Felix Agbesanwa, Chairman of ASUSS in the state, expressing concern over the safety of teachers and demanding justice for the assaulted teacher. The suspects have already been arraigned in court for assault.

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the incident and announced the arrest of the students. Omolola Odutola, the police spokesperson, stated that the teacher had reported the assault at Remo Police Division.

The state government has condemned the act and emphasized its zero-tolerance policy for indiscipline among learners. Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Science, and Technology, warned parents about their children’s behavior and assured that appropriate measures would be taken against students who misbehave in school.
