The Rivers State Police Command has reported the successful neutralization of three kidnap suspects in the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State. The Commissioner of Police, Polycarp Emeka Nwonyi, confirmed this news during a press conference held over the weekend.
According to Nwonyi, the C4i Intelligence Unit operatives embarked on the mission and led by their commander, CSP Adamu Ahmadu, stormed the Isiodu forest at around 3:30 pm on Friday. The suspects who were residing in this area were known for their kidnapping activities.
There was a fierce gun battle between the operatives and the suspects, resulting in grave injuries to three of the suspects. The wounded suspects were taken to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
The police force recovered two AK-47 rifles and eight magazines that were loaded with 70 rounds of live ammunition. Additionally, 10 cartridges were also discovered from the hideout.
In a related development, police operatives who were on a routine patrol in Elelenwon, recovered a male corpse tied to a transformer. Fortunately, the law enforcement was successful in arresting a suspect who has been subjected to questioning to provide more leads on the case.
This development comes on the heels of a recent incident where another four suspected kidnappers were neutralized by the police. Although this is a victory for the police, it is apparent that there is still a lot of work to be done regarding ensuring safety in the state.
