Spain Seal Final Spot After Late Joselu Winner Sees Off Italy
Spain secured their place in the final of the Nations League with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Italy, thanks to Joselu’s late strike.
After a nail-biting game in Enschede, Luis de la Fuente’s men emerged victorious, and will now face Croatia in the tournament’s decider.
Quick-Fire Start
Spain headed into the match looking to take control from the off, and they did just that, with Yeremy Pino firing them ahead after just three minutes of play.
Spot-Kick Scramble
However, Italy was not going to let their opponents have it all their own way and drew level from the penalty spot when Ciro Immobile’s shot found the back of the net.
The game remained level heading into the final minutes, and extra-time seemed inevitable, until Joselu seized the chance and prodded home from close range with just two minutes left on the clock.
It was a dramatic finish to a thrilling contest and ensured Spain would get a shot at glory against Croatia in Sunday’s final.
“A victory achieved through hard work, teamwork and collective spirit,” said de la Fuente in a post-match interview.
