Suspects Confess to Stealing from Private Hotel
Three individuals disguised as guests to steal valuables from a hotel on Odukpani Road in Calabar, Cross River State. The hotel owner, Bassey Okon Etim, filed a petition against Igwe Abeng Igwe, Denis Godwin, and Ogar Ating for stealing from his hotel. Following an investigation led by the Zonal Squad, the suspects, were arrested after being identified by the petitioner.
In a statement by the zone six Police PRO, Nelson Okpabi, the suspects confessed to stealing from the petitioner’s Bebobsco hotel, No. 62 Old Odukpani road, Calabar on June 5, 2023, having disguised as genuine guests. The team executed a search warrant in their houses and recovered stolen items such as a motorcycle, generator, television sets, standing fan, and other hotel items.
The suspects denied that they robbed the guests of the hotel of their valuables on February 14, 2023, as alleged. The police are still carrying out discreet investigations into the case, and the suspects will soon be arraigned in court.
Hotel owners have been called upon to be watchful of the guests they receive and to report any suspicious persons. The AIG urged members of the public to take the security of their communities seriously and provide timely information to security agencies.
