Blockquote: Ndume Talks About Pressure from Friends Due to His First Wife Being a Judge
Senator Ali Ndume recently appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme to discuss the pressure he faces from friends since his first wife is a high court judge. According to Ndume, it takes a strong character to resist the pressure mounted by friends when your spouse is a high-court justice.
“My wife is a high court judge, my first wife. And when people know that your wife is a judge, especially your friends, they will put pressure on you,” he said on the programme. “We are all humans, depends on how strong you are to stand against this kind of thing.”
Bulkachuwa’s Disclosures
Ndume appeared on the programme to comment on recent disclosures made by former Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa, who revealed that his wife, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, had helped some politicians during her tenure as the President of the Court of Appeal between April 2014 and March 2020. During the Senate Valedictory Session on Saturday, Bulkachuwa, who represented Bauchi North Senatorial District in the 9th Senate, made the statement. Since then, many senior lawyers have tackled Bulkachuwa, with some labeling his disclosure a ‘monumental disgrace.’
Ndume on Bulkachuwa’s Comment
Commenting on Bulkachuwa’s public admission, Ndume expressed his concern, stating that “people are caught in between what is right and moral and what is social”. He further added that the system sometimes lets people down and can be compromised. “When the system itself is more or less compromised or can be compromised, you will be tempted, but I like his courage for confessing publicly even when he can decide to say no. It will help the system and people to look inwards,” Ndume added.
In conclusion, Ndume’s admission about the pressure he faces highlights the ethical responsibilities of friends, family, and loved ones of judges and high-ranking officials. It is imperative to maintain high levels of integrity to uphold moral and ethical values regardless of the people in one’s life.
