President Tinubu Suspends EFCC Chairman Bawa Over Alleged Abuse of Office
President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has indefinitely suspended the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, over allegations of abuse of office. In a statement by the Director of Information at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, the President’s decision followed ‘weighty’ allegations levelled against Mr. Bawa.
The statement reads, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,GCFR, has approved the indefinite suspension from office of Mr. AbdulRasheed Bawa, CON, as the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.”
The statement further directed Mr. Bawa to handover his office affairs to the Director of Operations in the Commission. The Director will oversee the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigations.
This move by President Tinubu against the anti-graft agency’s Chairman has caused a stir in the country, with many wondering about the weighty allegations made against Mr. Bawa. Nigerians will be eagerly waiting for the outcome of the investigations.
