How to be creative: the connection between eating lightly and creativity

Sponsored

How to be creative? It’s an important question, because creativity is one of the defining characteristics of human beings. By understanding how to be creative, you can do more of what you love to do, spend more time with the people you enjoy being around, and make better decisions at work and in your personal life. One way to boost your creativity? Eat lightly.

When you eat well you are more creative

Eating only when you’re hungry or stopping when you’re full supports optimal health, including your mental acuity. Research shows that a diet of mostly fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains and lean proteins improves mental clarity. A diet high in processed foods can lead to mental fog by causing blood sugar levels to fluctuate rapidly—which causes cravings for more sweets and starches—and even leads to weight gain.

Maintaining a clean diet helps with being more productive

Research suggests that maintaining a clean diet can help boost mental clarity. When we eat too much, our blood sugar becomes spiked, which is also known as hyperglycemia. This then causes our body’s insulin levels to rise, which raises our heart rate—all of which make it difficult for us to think clearly. Following a healthy diet like paleo or keto not only helps keep blood sugar balanced throughout your day but also lets you focus on being productive without having to deal with unwanted health issues.

The binge-purge cycle isn’t sustainable

If you’re struggling with binging on unhealthy foods, keep in mind that it’s not sustainable. Eating junk food every day can lead to a lack of mental clarity, which is essential for creativity.

Listen to your body, it knows best

When you’re hungry, when you’re full, when you should exercise or take a break. Your body knows what it needs—so pay attention. Making sure you listen to your body is one of many ways to create a positive relationship with food (and all things in life). When you eat mindfully instead of for mindless reasons like distraction or boredom, there will be less room for negative feelings about food. This leads to bingeing less frequently, which in turn makes space for more curiosity and creativity.

If you don’t have time to cook use blender recipes

Blender recipes are great for days when you just don’t have time to cook. In fact, these types of recipes require very little effort on your part—you simply toss ingredients into a blender and turn it on. These blends can contain fruit, vegetables, seeds, nuts, or any combination thereof. With just a few simple ingredients blended together, you get a rich source of fiber that will keep your tummy full until lunchtime.

Lighten up your meals with green tea

Green tea has recently been linked with mental health. In a 2015 study published in Psychological Reports, researchers from Zhejiang University explored people’s diets and their level of creativity. After studying 393 Chinese college students over one week, they found that participants who ate lightly were more likely to perform better on tests of divergent thinking, which is required for more abstract kinds of thinking associated with problem solving.
