Mental health is the level of psychological well-being or an absence of mental illness. It is the state of someone who is “functioning at a satisfactory level of emotional and behavioral adjustment”. The mental health is a key part of the human health. Health as defined by WHO is a state of physical, mental and social well-being in which disease and infirmity are absent. Note the word “mental”.
Mental health is a key factor to our healthy life as it involves the brain. Although the brain might be hidden, it controls the entire human body from its throne (lol) So, if anything affects the performance of the brain then the whole body feels the impact
Mental health does not mean that one is crazy as it is also one of the illness/sickness caused by a problem in the brain. There are several disorders that can arise from a problem in the brain e.g anxiety, depression, eating disorder, bipolar affective disorder, schizophrenia…etc
There’s no age limit that these disorders cannot affect but the thing about a brain/mental disorder is that they have a telltale sign. It was mentioned earlier that the brain controls the mind which then controls the body so these disorders often have symptoms. For example, eating disorders – when a person is eating so less or much more then attention should be brought to the person’s lifestyle.
Especially in this period of COVID-19, efforts should be made to protect mental health, just as one gyms in order to get the summer body you’ve always wanted then efforts should be made to protect your mental health also by:
1. Talking about your feelings
It might be with loved ones or through writing or whatever you do best. The important thing is LET IT ALL OUT. When it’s all closed up inside of you then it affects your mental health. LET IT OUT
2. Eat Well
Whatever you do, make sure to eat well but be careful not to eat anyhow, eat healthy foods. When the stomach is full, the body and brain will be able to work together to give you the best of you
The lockdown won’t be here forever and the cats you’ve accumulated from eating will not go anywhere unless they are shed out through exercise. They are lots of Home workout apps if there is no gym in your home. Shed those fats, don’t lose your summer body
4. Ask for Help
No man is an island, everyone needs help that’s why we are social animals not solitary. Cultivate the habit of asking for help, it might not be easy but cultivate it and it will grow. It will help in this period whenever anything is getting too hard. This pandemic is new to everyone and almost everyone is panicking but when you feel it’s too much – ask for help
5. Do something you’re good at
Some, because of the hustle and bustle of our everyday life have forgotten some skills they learnt e.g knitting, sewing, crocheting, shoe making…etc Take this time to develop those skills, it will make you happy
Remember to take care of others too while taking care of yourself. Love yourself, your family and God (if you believe in him).
